Style of yoga offered

I offer “slow flow yoga” that is alignment based (joints are in agreement) and accessible. Slow flow is the combination of vinyasa and hatha yoga practice. The sequence of poses is slower paced than a typical vinyasa class, so that poses flow together while you also get to hold poses long enough to breathe in them for a bit. My goal is to provide a practice that is safe, sustainable, and accessible to all through a variety of choices in yoga poses. We do level changes, long holds, and sprinkle in some restorative poses.  I would also describe this accessible-ness as a “choose your own adventure” style of class. To me yoga is like dance, and there are many moments where it is possible to express poses in different ways, or where you can do an alternate pose (ie: child’s pose or down dog). I also hope that through practicing with me, people develop greater confidence and awareness to know what feels good for them so that they can make decisions for themselves on how they want to practice on their own or with someone else. It is very important to me that people always feel like they can “say no” or that they have choices.

Bio

My name is Willa Becker and I started Rogue Yogi in 2017, but my yoga story goes back to 2013. I started practicing yoga in an effort to combat severe depression. My yoga practice is one major way that I have been able to heal and come back to myself again. Yoga influenced my life in such a positive way that I was inspired to become a teacher so that I could share it with others. After two years as a student, I completed a 200-hour teacher training in 2015 at Richmond Beach Yoga with Dylan Noebels and Angeline Johnston. Further yoga workshops/trainings that I have completed include sacroiliac and lumbar stability in Yoga with Theresa Elliot, trauma-informed training with Yoga Behind Bars, perinatal yoga at 8 Limbs with Meagan Sloan, and a handstand workshop with Andreas Fetz. Since completing teacher training I have been practicing and teaching accessible and lighthearted All Levels Yoga at studios and community spaces around Seattle and Puget Sound including: Richmond Beach Yoga, Yogasmith, South Park Senior Center, Yoga Sanctuary Studio, and independently as Rogue Yogi.

 Def rogue: 2.

an elephant or other large wild animal driven away or living apart from the herd and having savage or destructive tendencies.

“a rogue elephant”

I am bigger than my destructive tendencies – and so are you. I hope to share what I have learned and continue to learn about the benefits of a yoga practice. Practicing yoga can help to strengthen our capacity for healing, joy, and stress management. Through practicing with me, I hope to remind people of the depth of their own inner strength, and of their capacity to feel and enjoy being alive. The more we are able to show up for ourselves, the better we are able to be there for the people we care about. For me, practicing yoga is a way to feel like a human, to feel like I am part of a whole, to take care of myself, to question my negative thoughts and make shifts in my perspective, and to be strong and mobile throughout my life. And it’s fun! (*If you are struggling with your mental health, please seek professional help.*)

“As we willingly enter each place of fear, each place of deficiency and insecurity in ourselves, we will discover that its walls are made of untruths, of old images of ourselves, of ancient fears, of false ideas of what is pure and what is not.”
